SUMMARY:MinSouth Snap - Brumadinho tailings dam collapse: revealing ground deformation precursors using satellite InSAR
DESCRIPTION:Doctor Stephen Grebby will be presenting this topic virtually at a MinSouth Snap on the 18th of May 2021 from 13:00-14:00 BST. \nDr  Grebby is an Assistant Professor in Earth Observation in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nottingham. He has a PhD in Geological Remote Sensing and his research interests are primarily in the development of airborne and satellite remote sensing techniques for application to geological mapping\, natural resources exploration\, and the mapping and monitoring of geohazards. Prior to joining the University of Nottingham\, he worked for the British Geological Survey as a Remote Sensing Geoscientist for 5 years \n \nIf interested\, it is free to attend.  For registration\, click this Link

SUMMARY:MinSouth Snap - From Another Angle
DESCRIPTION:Challenging the Orthodoxy of Traditional InSAR Ground Motion Surveys\n\nOver the last 20 years or so\, Interferometric SAR (InSAR) has become an established method for measuring land motion from satellites and\, since the advent of free data from remote sensing missions such as Sentinel-1\, can be a very cost-effective way to support civil engineering and infrastructure asset management projects. However\, there is a serious downside in that most current techniques\, such as PSInSAR and SBAS\, are very poor at monitoring motion over rural landcover\, such as soils and vegetated surfaces. In this presentation\, Dr Andy Sowter from Terra Motion Limited will describe the current capability of satellite InSAR and\, using case studies from the mining industry\, show how he and his colleagues have seriously challenged the preconceptions of InSAR experts everywhere\, opening up new and exciting opportunities for ubiquitous and remote ground motion monitoring at all latitudes and in all terrains. \n\nClick here to register for this event through Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:MinSouth Snap-Greener Mining: Is it achievable and how?
DESCRIPTION:Fuel_Economy_Brochure\nMinSouth Snap\nGreener Mining:  Is It Achievable and How?\nOn Tuesday the 23rd of February\, Tim Patterson\, Chief Executive Officer of Fuel Economy Solution Limited has agreed to discuss at the MinSouth online luncheon potential means to make mining greener and how. \nTim graduated with a BSc.(Hons) in Mining Geology from University College Cardiff in 1988. He spent his first 10 years in industry in underground excavation\, initially as a junior engineer with an opencast coal miner and finally with Balfour Beatty as their senior geotechnical engineer of the Jersey Storm Water cavern and tunnels sewerage scheme. Tim has fulfilled geotechnical engineering roles within other major tunnels in the UK including the Conwy immersed tube tunnel for Costain-Tarmac\, the Pen-Y-Clip A55 rock tunnel for Howard Humphreys & Partners/Brown & Root Civil (both North Wales) and the Penzance & St Ives Interceptor Sewer Scheme as hard rock mechanics tunnels and shaft designer for D&B contractor John Brown Cementation. \nFuel Economy Solution Limited is an energy efficiency business here to help your organization save fuel costs\, comply with new climate change legislation emissions limits and sweat all of your existing assets using internal combustion engines. Our combustion technology is effective\, stabilizes hydrocarbons (bio-)fuels but also applicable in waste to energy solutions to provide cleaner\, greener and cheaper industrial energy. Higher sulphur engines which have to burn lower sulphur fuels required by incoming climate change regulations is our sweet spot. \nAs well as a combustion efficiency and GHG emissions reduction business in its own right\, Fuel Economy Solution is also the founder of the Economy Solution Group. \n \nThis is a collaborative group of centrally co-ordinated transformation and green technologies focused on transition to a low carbon economy \nThis will be online.  Come and attend this fascinating presentation with your snap on GoToMeeting from 12:30 to 1:30 on Tuesday!  A Brochure for this event is at the beginning of this write up. \nHope to see you there! \nPS – New to GoToMeeting?
