SUMMARY:General meeting
DESCRIPTION:Rachel Speight will be speaking about the difficulties companies from ‘traditional’ mining countries face when competing in less-than-transparent jurisdictions\, and actions such companies can take to defend themselves while retaining industrial competitiveness.  Rachel is a seasoned veteran of mining and infrastructure law\, with particular expertise in the African continent.  She has been with Mayer-Brown since 1999 and is repeatedly commended for her commercial-mindedness and technical understanding. \nThe talk will cover: \n\nan introduction to the UK anti-bribery offences and some discussion of the offences in the US and other jurisdictions\nwho is covered by this legislation\nconsequences of non-compliance\nthe unique risks faced by the mining industry in this area  – for example operating in high-risk jurisdictions; the level of interaction required with government officials; use of a supply chain; joint ventures; working with local partners; and the need for community projects\nstrategies which mining companies and mining professionals can use to deal with these risks – eg risk assessment\, due diligence\, top-level commitment\ntrends\, such as globalisation of enforcement; growing number of jurisdictions are adopting this legislation; high profile corporates that have come under the spot light; whistle-blowing/self-reporting\ncase study

SUMMARY:Flexible and Mobile Mineral Processing in the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:FAME is an EU funded Research and Innovation project.  The project comprises of 16 partners from seven EU28 countries.  The project aims to develop innovative mineral processing flowsheets to process European skarn\, greisen or pegmatite ores.  The two-day Flexible and Mobile Processing in the 21st Century conference will showcase the results of the FAME experimental programme with presentations from all major work packages\, including:\n• Mineral characterisation\n• Mineral processing solutions for skarn and pegmatite ores\n• Mineral processing solutions for greisen ores\n• Processing intensification\n• Best practices for social and environmental impact assessment for mineral processing \nThe two-day event is free to attend\, however\, there will be a conference dinner on the 5 December on a Thames River Boat. The dinner is a three course meal with jazz band and a trip down the River Thames. Tickets for the dinner are £70 + VAT.

SUMMARY:General meeting
DESCRIPTION:James Watt CVO will speak about the underlying risks of further conflict in the Middle East worsening the economic and social predicament of many of its countries\, notably Iraq\, Syria and Yemen\, already devastated by prolonged violence and disruption.  Others\, including Iran and Qatar\, face the pressure of sanctions. None is immune from the unfulfilled aspirations of a large and growing youth population. James will illustrate his argument with examples taken from current topics in the news. \nJames spent much of his diplomatic career in the Middle East\, in due course serving as British Ambassador to Lebanon\, Jordan and Egypt.  Since he retired from the Diplomatic Service in 2014 he has been working in London as a political risk consultant as a Partner in the Ambassador Partnership LLP (www.ambassadorllp.com). He is also active in the think tank world on the Middle East and serves in a number of pro bono roles relating to research into the post-conflict challenges of the region.

SUMMARY:FINEX '18
DESCRIPTION:FINEX’18 is a two-day conference focusing on the role of funding exploration\, development and mining. It is the 6th of a biennial conference series established in 2008 with the aim of bringing together explorationists and mining companies with those from the financial sector\, in one of the largest mining capitals of the world. \nFINEX ’18 will cover a wide range of topics associated with funding exploration and development by prominent experts in their field. The invited speakers bring to FINEX ’18 the latest trends in exploration\, development and finance within the sector. \nFINEX ’18 is a not-for-profit event with low registration fees enabling all to attend\, thanks to sponsorship by companies and time freely given by the organising committee and the invited speakers. FINEX ’18 is fully catered with coffee and tea breaks and lunch. At the close of the first day we host a networking cocktail and at the close of the conference there will be a drinks reception giving students and younger entrants to the industry an opportunity to meet each other and longer-established delegates. SUMMARY:Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:After the AGM Rob Davies\, a Director of Forge International Limited and Chief Technical Officer of Brazil Iron Limited\, will be talking about resource estimation\, implications and reporting to markets and shareholders. \nThe estimation of a Mineral Resource is one of the most significant steps in the development of a mining project. Resource estimates underpin project value and influence all subsequent technical and economic studies. A Resource estimate provides the first opportunity for the informal project valuations that drive equity markets. Reliable Resource estimates and clear and transparent disclosure are critical to both mining/exploration companies and investors.  This presentation is intended as an introduction to the Resource estimation process\, the principles of public disclosure and the role of the resource geologist. \n

SUMMARY:General meeting
DESCRIPTION:Project Generators: Exploration & Investment\nMineral exploration is an inherently capital-intensive and risky business. Despite the large number of junior explorers there is only the very occasional spectacular discovery\, meaning the odds of success are stacked against individual resource investors. This geological risk can then be compounded by the ‘all eggs in one basket’ approach that many typical juniors employ whereby shareholders are offered exposure to only one or two flagship projects that focus on a single commodity within the same jurisdiction. \nProject Generators\, however\, offer an alternative: a large portfolio of projects that is diversified by commodity and country\, helping to insulate the company against political and economic risks\, with joint venture partners being sought to fund the more advanced and expensive phases of exploration. In addition\, a continually-fed pipeline of new projects forces the company to quickly assess and dispassionately relinquish unprospective ground\, allowing it to focus on only those with the greatest potential\, therefore increasing the chance of making an economic discovery.\nThis presentation will introduce the concept of ‘Project Generators’\, providing an overview of the business model and attractiveness for investment\, as well as outlining how they conduct their exploration programmes and what to look out for when considering investing …!
