SUMMARY:Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining Guideline V2 – Health and Safety\, Regulations\, and Workforce Community and Social Impact Workshop 1
DESCRIPTION:About the project:  \nThe first version of the Guideline for the Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining is being used within the industry as a playbook for effective autonomous systems implementation\, as a way to understand customer needs\, and as an educational\, communications\, and operational tool. Version 2 will offer updated guidance and considerations on justifying\, planning\, developing\, testing\, implementing\, and executing autonomous systems.  \nAbout the workshop:  \nWorkshop participants will review and revise three sections: Health and Safety\, Regulations\, and Workforce Community and Social Impact\, which focus on meeting new health and safety requirements particularly as they relate to autonomous system implementation and the social impact of autonomy in the community.  \n\nHealth and Safety: This section currently includes content on risk management and emergency response. A key focus of this workshop will be considering differentiating elements for autonomous systems\, especially around the more generic risk management content. \nRegulations: This section currently includes guidance on engaging regulators. It requires review to make sure it is globally applicable. \nWorkforce\, Community\, and Social Impact: This section includes information on the evolving workforce requirements\, communications strategy\, social and economic impact assessment\, and education and skills migration. It primarily requires review to make sure it is up to date. \n\nReview and revise:  \n\n5.1 Risk Management \n\n\n5.1.1 Risk Identification   \n5.1.2 Risk Analysis \n5.1.3 Controls for Risk and Hazard Management \n\n\n5.1.4 Monitoring and Review \n5.1.5 Documentation \n\n\n5.2 Emergency Management Planning \n6.1 Engaging Regulators \n7.1 Engagement Plan \n\n\n7.1.1 Evolving Workforce Requirements \n7.1.2 Evolving Workforce Requirements \n7.1.3 Social and Economic Impact Assessment \n\n\n7.2 Education and Skills Migration \n\nThis workshop will be held virtually on two separate dates to accommodate different time zones. Click here to view the other date and time option.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Scotgold Resources Ltd.'s Cononish Gold & Silver Mine
DESCRIPTION:On the 8th of April\, MinSouth will be hosting a lecture presented by ScotGold Resources Ltd to discuss its Cononish Gold and Silver Mine.  The presentation will be by Richard Gray \nNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – WITH EFFECT FROM 01 APRIL 2021 Mr Richard Gray has extensive international experience\, in both underground and open pit mine operations\, and brings considerable operational knowledge and management experience and skills to the Company\, particularly in the development and implementation of gold mining projects. He has previously held various roles at both majors and juniors within the gold mining sector and his successful career has included 15 years working in South Africa for Gencor Ltd and 14 years in West Africa for Golden Star Resources Ltd and Avocet Mining.  He holds a BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering from the Royal School of Mines\, Imperial College and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business\, Cape Town University. \n  \nThis mine is in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park near Tyndrum. \nWe last heard from ScotGold in 2014   Since that time\, ScotGold has started mining and had its first gold pour in 2020 on the 30th of November.  It will be interesting to hear the paths they followed to reach this point and the paths being planned to follow in the future. \nGold was discovered at Cononish in the 1980s.  Diamond drilling campaigns were followed by a 900m long exploration adit between 1989 and 1991.  Mineral resource delineation continued from that point.  Planning approval was granted by the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park in 2018 on October 19th\, Work commenced later that year on December 18th. \nThere are estimated reserves of 550 000t with a grade of 11.8 g Au/t.  The average annual production over the nine year mine life is 23 370 oz.  63 employees will be working at this mine while it is in production. \n \nMore information about the Cononish Gold and Silver Mine can be found by clicking on the Scotgold logo above. \nOne can register for this event by clicking on the Eventbrite link below. \nLecture on 8th April 2021:  Scotgold Resources Ltd.’s Cononish Gold and Silver Mine.

SUMMARY:Using Science to Maximize Sorting Efficiency
DESCRIPTION:Recent implementations of sensor-based sorting have shown major positive impacts on mining economics. Maximizing sorting efficiency requires two linked pieces of information: particle size and particle grade. In addition to reducing downstream processing\, particle sorting improves throughput of viable ore. In general\, the coarser the size fraction\, the easier the sorting and the greater the economic rewards. Intimately linked to particle size is target mineral grade. Successful upgrading relies on understanding the relationship between target mineral grade and size fraction for each phase of the deposit; information that is critical for designing sorting parameters and algorithms. In this webinar\, experts from SRC’s Mining and Energy Division will show how an industry-unique combination of QEMSCAN® and computed-tomography (CT) scanning technologies can help determine the critical size-grade relationship of the ore and assist in identifying the ideal size fraction(s) to sort. This newly developed toolset is applicable to all major deposit types and size ranges. \nTo register for this Solutions Exchange Webinar:\nRegistration Link

SUMMARY:MinSouth Snap - From Another Angle
DESCRIPTION:Challenging the Orthodoxy of Traditional InSAR Ground Motion Surveys\n\nOver the last 20 years or so\, Interferometric SAR (InSAR) has become an established method for measuring land motion from satellites and\, since the advent of free data from remote sensing missions such as Sentinel-1\, can be a very cost-effective way to support civil engineering and infrastructure asset management projects. However\, there is a serious downside in that most current techniques\, such as PSInSAR and SBAS\, are very poor at monitoring motion over rural landcover\, such as soils and vegetated surfaces. In this presentation\, Dr Andy Sowter from Terra Motion Limited will describe the current capability of satellite InSAR and\, using case studies from the mining industry\, show how he and his colleagues have seriously challenged the preconceptions of InSAR experts everywhere\, opening up new and exciting opportunities for ubiquitous and remote ground motion monitoring at all latitudes and in all terrains. \n\nClick here to register for this event through Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:Sundowner
DESCRIPTION:Video conference is done through Wonder.  As their web page states: \n“Wonder is a space where you can connect to others in a more spontaneous and fluid way. You move around freely between groups. It’s fun\, creative and energizing. We call this concept fluid togetherness\, we think it’s the future of how people will connect online in future and we’re incredibly excited about it. The best thing is that Wonder is going to be a the core of it.” \nThere are separate rooms available at this space for Students\, Geologists\, Mining Engineers and Metallurgists.  Anyone can go into whichever room. \nHere is the link: \nSundowners\n
