The feasibility of re-use/recycling of mine tailings

May 14, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Sue Struthers of Skapa Mining Services will give a talk which describes research into the feasibility of recycling mine tailings, using four Australian base-metal mines as case studies. This includes characterisation studies, column leach tests and laboratory trials used to assess extraction of remaining metal values; removal of potential contaminants; and development of various tailings products and topsoil. Recycling flowsheets and economic feasibility studies will be discussed, together with applications and examples of tailings recycling. The concept of ‘Total Project Development’, integrating mining and waste recycling, is described, with implications for mining in the developing world.
