The second Thursday of October is the first day of MinSouth’s New Year when major changes occur in our learned society. Immediately after the AGM last years President Mark Burnett received a thank you gift from the Council and he in turn handed the Chain of Office of President to the incoming President, Mark Davis. Yes, it was a Mark squared evening – a blue moon event! This was followed by an excellent Lecture by Sam (Meysam) Safavian, Technical Director, Geotechnics, Dams and Tailings at SLR Consulting Limited. The title of the lecture was “Risk based approach for safety reviews of tailings dams & minewater management dams”. The event was held in IOM3’s HQ on Warren Street in the mine on 9th October.
The photographs show Mark handing over the gift to the outgoing Mark and Mark handing over the Chain to the incoming Mark. As a reminder- outgoing is: Mark Burnett and incoming is: Mark Davis. Mark was kind enough to share with us as to what the gift was. Mark also made sure that the Chain was fitted correctly on Mark. The hybrid event was held in IOM3’s HQ on Warren Street in the mine on 10th October.
In return for Sam giving us the Lecture, Mark presented him with a MinSouth tie. Mark will have some for members to purchase at our next meeting at The Counting House on 14th November, the second Thursday of the month!
The person behind the lense was none other than the senior vice president, Anya Hurd. Thank you Anya.
