General meeting

November 12, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

James Watt CVO will speak about the underlying risks of further conflict in the Middle East worsening the economic and social predicament of many of its countries, notably Iraq, Syria and Yemen, already devastated by prolonged violence and disruption.  Others, including Iran and Qatar, face the pressure of sanctions. None is immune from the unfulfilled aspirations of a large and growing youth population. James will illustrate his argument with examples taken from current topics in the news.

James spent much of his diplomatic career in the Middle East, in due course serving as British Ambassador to Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt.  Since he retired from the Diplomatic Service in 2014 he has been working in London as a political risk consultant as a Partner in the Ambassador Partnership LLP (www.ambassadorllp.com). He is also active in the think tank world on the Middle East and serves in a number of pro bono roles relating to research into the post-conflict challenges of the region.
