Christmas Quiz a Cracker

The MinSouth Christmas mining quiz that was held on 11 December at the RAF Club in London was a resounding success, according to all those who gathered to enjoy the light-hearted competition.

For the past several years the questions had been set by Nick Eastwood, who has now retired from MinSouth, and a new quizmaster was needed. Avid quizzer and recent Mastermind contender, Julian Aldridge, stepped up to the plate and came up with a selection of questions which challenged even the most knowledgeable of mining brains. Some of the links between Christmas and mining were tenuous to say the least, but the varied questions were greeted with good humour all around.

The teams were from a mix of backgrounds within the mining industry: miners were digging deep into the memory banks; geologists used all the available resources; mineral processors were concentrating hard (although not winning); there were even journalists to do the writing. Everyone had a blast!

At the end of the five rounds, the Generation Gap team, being Paul Moore, Gavin Bowyer, Paul Griffin and David Collins, were victorious. Thanks to Julian for setting and the questions and being quizmaster and to Gavin Bowyer for the photos.
